H&H Group's Pet Nutrition and Care segment posted revenue of RMB 442 million ($66.3 million) in Q3 2026, a decline of 13.5% year-over-year. Pet supplements dropped 13.1% in the quarter.

The quarterly drop and the nine-month regional split

Akash Bedi, Group CEO, said the Q3 decline stemmed mainly from shifts in when major promotional events occurred, such as Amazon Prime Day, along with changes in the timing of new retail account openings and existing account expansions versus the prior-year quarter.

Over the first nine months of 2026, H&H's pet portfolio revenue in mainland China dropped 36.3%. The firm said its focus remained on building Solid Gold's higher-margin pet food and supplement lines, which accounted for 46.8% of the segment's China revenue in that span.

In North America, the pet segment grew 9.3% on a like-for-like basis across the same nine months, driven by Zesty Paws and Solid Gold. Those two brands posted like-for-like sales increases of 8.8% and 7.3%. H&H pointed to shifting demographics, growing pet ownership, and sustained interest in premium nutrition and pet humanization as drivers of North American demand.

The capital allocation signal

For the rest of 2026, H&H said it will back growth with new product rollouts and focused marketing programs. In pet nutrition specifically, the company intends to widen Zesty Paws' retail footprint and introduce products in additional categories, while pushing Solid Gold into higher-margin segments and e-commerce channels. Both efforts center on North America.

If you stock either brand, the rep's next call is likely to include more aggressive terms, co-op support, or inventory programs than the last one. A supplier chasing 9% growth in your market after losing a third of its revenue at home needs velocity, and velocity costs margin on their side or yours.

What to do if you carry these lines

If you already stock Zesty Paws or Solid Gold, pull your last six months of turn data before the rep's next visit. H&H is widening distribution and rolling out new SKUs in North America, which means your aisle is about to get more crowded with the same brand family. You need to know whether the new SKUs cannibalize your existing ones or grow the category for you.

H&H cited shifts in when new retail accounts launched and when existing ones expanded as a factor in the quarterly decline. If those new doors are in your trade area, you're now splitting the same customer base across more locations, and your per-store velocity is the cost.

If you don't currently stock either brand, a supplier reallocating capital to North America after a home-market contraction is more willing to deal on opening orders, slotting support, and trial periods than one growing everywhere. The failure mode is taking on a brand that's chasing distribution growth rather than pull, then discovering six months in that the velocity doesn't cover the shelf space.

Our read: the geographic mix matters more than the quarterly timing

H&H attributed the Q3 decline to promotional timing and account launch schedules, which are real factors. But the nine-month China number, down 36.3%, is not a timing issue. That is a market contraction, and it is driving a geographic rebalancing that puts more pressure on North American retail to deliver.

The company's plan to widen Zesty Paws' reach and push Solid Gold into higher-margin segments is the right move for a supplier in this position. The risk for the retailer is that expanding distribution often means more doors carrying the same SKUs, which dilutes per-store velocity unless the brand is genuinely pulling new buyers into the category.

We'd watch whether the new Zesty Paws categories H&H mentioned land on independent shelves or stay in the e-commerce and big-box channels where the brand already has traction. If the new SKUs show up in your distributor's catalog in Q1 2027, H&H is making good on the expansion. If they don't, the growth capital went somewhere else.
