Privacy policy.

PetRetailNews is a trade publication for the business of pet retail. We keep this simple: we collect what we need to send you what you asked for, we don't sell it, and we don't track you around the internet.

Who we are

PetRetailNews (petretailnews.com) is published by HomeLife Brands, HomeLife Brands, 4130 E. La Palma Ave, Anaheim, CA 92807. Questions about this policy or your data: hello@petretailnews.com.

What we collect, and why

Newsletter subscribers. When you subscribe to The Brief we collect your email address and use it to send the newsletter. Every issue includes a working unsubscribe link; unsubscribing stops the emails.

Store claims. When you claim a store listing we collect the email address you submit, use it to send a one-time verification link, and — once verified — associate it with your listing so you can manage it. The verification link travels only by email.

PR Wire submissions. When you submit a press release we collect the contact and company details you provide, and the text you submit. If you use the AI-assisted drafting step, the text you enter is processed by our AI model provider to produce the draft; it is not used to train models under our agreements. Submitter contact details are used to run the service (review, publication, invoicing) and are not published unless you include them in the release itself.

Server logs. Like every website, our hosting provider records standard request logs (IP address, user agent, pages requested) for security and operations. We don't use them to profile readers.

The retailer directory

Our map of independent pet retailers lists businesses — store names, locations, and business contact details (website, phone, public business email) — compiled from openly licensed public sources, including OpenStreetMap, the Foursquare Open Source Places dataset, and stores' own public websites. This is business listing data, not consumer data. If a listing is about your store and is wrong, or you want it removed, email hello@petretailnews.com and we'll fix or remove it.

We may email a store at its publicly listed business address about its listing — for example, to invite the owner to claim it. Every such email identifies us, includes our mailing address, and includes a way to opt out. Opt-outs are honored and permanent.

Analytics

We measure site traffic with Vercel Web Analytics, a cookieless, first-party measurement tool. It counts page views and referrers in aggregate, sets no cookies, stores no personal profile, and does not follow you to other websites. We use it to understand which stories get read — nothing more.

What we don't do

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We do not run advertising trackers, analytics cookies, or social pixels on the reader site. Sponsorships in The Brief are sold on the audience in aggregate, never on individual subscriber data.

Cookies

The reader site sets no cookies — our analytics is cookieless. The only cookie on this domain is a session cookie for our own staff admin login.

Service providers

We use a small number of infrastructure providers to run the site, each processing data only on our behalf: Vercel (hosting and cookieless analytics), Neon (database), Resend (email delivery), and AI model providers (Anthropic, OpenAI) for drafting assistance as described above.

Retention and your choices

We keep subscriber emails while you're subscribed, claim emails while the claim stands, and PR Wire records while the release is published. To unsubscribe, use the link in any email. To access, correct, or delete your information — including California and other state privacy rights — email hello@petretailnews.com. We'll act on it; we don't make you file paperwork.

Scope

PetRetailNews is a US-based business publication for a professional audience. It isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect children's data.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the effective date above. Material changes affecting subscribers get called out in the newsletter itself.
