Halstrum LLC, the company behind LubriSyn joint supplements, acquired FullBucket Health, a provider of veterinary-formulated digestive health supplements for horses, dogs, and cats. The deal brings together two brands built by veterinarians for their own patients.

The lines Halstrum just combined

LubriSyn is a hyaluronic acid joint support line researched, developed, and tested by veterinarians. FullBucket offers probiotics and other supplements developed for specific digestive needs. The company says the acquisition creates an opportunity to serve consumers seeking veterinarian-developed joint and digestive health solutions, and to educate animal owners on the connection between gut health and joint function, which the company calls the "joint-gut axis."

Both brands were founded by veterinarians who built products for their own practices. Dr. Steve Allday of Halstrum and Drs. Rob Franklin and Keith Latson of FullBucket met as classmates at Texas A&M while training to become equine veterinarians. "We built FullBucket to support our own patients," Franklin and Latson said in the announcement. "Dr. Allday started LubriSyn from that same place, making Halstrum a natural home for FullBucket."

Halstrum said it will share additional information with customers, retailers, and veterinary partners over the next few weeks. The announcement did not disclose the purchase price, the revenue of either company, or how the combined entity will be structured.

What the deal changes on the shelf

A store carrying both brands may now order from one supplier instead of two, depending on how Halstrum structures distribution. That could simplify the relationship and the paperwork, but it also removes a negotiating lever when both brands are owned by the same company. The combined portfolio creates a digestive-to-joint upsell path if Halstrom cross-merchandises the lines, though the announcement does not say whether the brands will stay separate or integrate.

The acquisition also signals category confidence. Halstrum is putting capital behind a second brand rather than building digestive products under the LubriSyn name, a move that assumes supplements remain a margin driver even as discretionary spending tightens.

Our read: the portfolio gap drove the deal

Halstrum had joint health covered with hyaluronic acid. It did not have digestive health, and FullBucket already had formulated probiotic products plus a veterinary founder story that matches Halstrum's positioning. The deal fills the gap faster than internal development would have.

The "joint-gut axis" language in the announcement sets up a cross-category story that lets a rep pitch both lines as part of one wellness protocol, not two unrelated products. Whether that works depends on execution. If the brands stay siloed under separate management, the synergy stays theoretical. If Halstrum bundles promotions or builds a combined planogram, the upsell path becomes real.

The announcement does not report how FullBucket performed before the acquisition, so we don't know if this is a growth play or a rescue. The veterinary founder story and the "same standards" language suggest the former, but the lack of revenue figures leaves that open.

What changes for a store carrying either brand

If you stock LubriSyn, you may now have access to FullBucket's digestive line through the same supplier, depending on how Halstrum structures the combined operation. If you stock FullBucket, the brand is now part of a company with a broader portfolio, which could mean different support or decision-making depending on how the integration goes.

If you carry both, watch the next rep call. The pitch will tell you whether Halstrum is running the brands separately or building a combined story. A bundled promotion or a cross-category planogram means the integration is real. If the rep still pitches them as two unrelated lines, the deal changes your supplier count but not much else.

For a brand operator in supplements, this is one more category where independent players are consolidating. Halstrum now has a joint line and a digestive line, both with veterinary credibility. That's a harder comp to beat than two separate single-category brands.
