Natural Pet Food Group announced that its K9 Natural Baked & Coated dog food line will sell exclusively through Pet Valu's family of stores in Canada until May 2027. The deal covers the retailer's five banners, including Bosley's, Paulmac's, Tisol, and Total Pet, and builds on a relationship that started in Fall 2025 when K9 Natural's freeze-dried and wet lines entered those shelves.
The exclusivity window and what it buys
The exclusivity period runs until May 2027, giving Pet Valu sole distribution rights during that window. The arrangement means the line will not be available through other Canadian retailers until the exclusivity ends.
The line launches with three recipes: Grass-Fed Red (sourced from New Zealand beef and lamb), Cage-Free Poultry (made with chicken and turkey), and Wild Ocean Fish (salmon, herring, cod, whitefish). Natural Pet Food Group describes the format as high-meat, high-protein nutrition in a dry kibble.
Michael Harrison, who leads western Canada sales at Natural Pet Food Group, said the launch "allows us to introduce the range to Canadian pet parents through a trusted retailer and give dog owners a new way to bring K9 Natural's nutrition to the bowl."
What the deal does not give independents
If you run an independent pet store in Canada and already stock K9 Natural's freeze-dried or wet lines, the exclusivity period means Baked & Coated will not be available to you until it ends. During that window, Pet Valu will be building sell-through data on the line.

The format question for stores that already carry the brand
K9 Natural's freeze-dried and wet lines already sit on Pet Valu shelves, so Baked & Coated is a line extension rather than a market entry. That matters because it changes the merchandising decision from a brand-entry question to a format question within an existing brand relationship.
Tamara Sakota, who leads merchandising at Pet Valu, said the launch "was a natural fit for us to welcome K9 Natural's Baked & Coated dog food to our shelves," framing it as an extension of an existing relationship rather than a new brand bet.
Our read: the exclusivity arrangement gives Pet Valu sole access to the line during the period, and K9 Natural gets distribution through a retailer the company describes as trusted. Independents that stock the brand's other formats will wait until the exclusivity period ends before they can carry Baked & Coated.
