LIX Pet Wellness launched Advanced Formula: Feline, a formula designed for cats already using CBD and needing broader daily support, the company said. The launch follows what LIX called strong sales of its original Feline ELIXIR and gives cat owners a next option as their cats' wellness needs change. Advanced Formula: Feline combines 300mg CBD, 200mg CBG, and 100mg CBN in a 3:2:1 cannabinoid profile, with dosing developed for animals under 30 pounds.

LIX built a higher-potency option for the buyer who already converted

The formula is positioned as the response when a cat shows increased stiffness, decreased appetite, cognitive changes, reduced interest in play, difficulty sleeping, or increased stress-related behaviors, signs the company said may signal that additional daily support is appropriate.

"After seeing strong demand for our original Feline ELIXIR, we knew there was an opportunity to give cat parents a clear next step," said Erin Hills, co-founder of LIX Pet Wellness. "Advanced Formula: Feline expands that progression with a formula and potency designed specifically for cats and small animals."

The formula rounds out what LIX called its Advanced lineup of flavorless and odorless products. It is made with human-grade ingredients suspended in organic MCT coconut oil, is THC-free, contains no allergens, and is third-party tested, according to the company. Cat owners can administer it directly from the dropper or add it to food or treats.

Our read: LIX is betting the margin is in keeping the buyer and moving them up

We're reading this as a signal about where LIX sees the opportunity in feline CBD. The company could have launched another entry SKU or expanded distribution of the original formula. Instead, it built a step-two product for the customer who already bought in, which suggests LIX believes the margin opportunity is in retention and progression rather than in competing for new shelf facings at the baseline.

That frames the conversation a buyer has with a CBD rep differently. A buyer evaluating LIX now has to assess whether the brand can pull a new customer into the category and whether the brand has built a credible progression that keeps that customer buying from you rather than switching to a competitor's premium line or dropping out of the category when their pet's needs change.

What this means for the feline CBD decision Monday

If you stock LIX's original Feline ELIXIR and it moves, the Advanced Formula gives you a retention play, a reason to keep the customer in your store when their cat ages or their needs shift, rather than losing them to a brand that already has the step-two option. If you don't stock LIX yet, the two-SKU progression is the pitch: you are not adding another CBD dropper, you are adding a matched set that lets you merchandise a clear path from entry to advanced.

The risk we'd watch: you are adding a second SKU in a category where your baseline velocity may not support it. A step-two product only works if the step-one product is still pulling new buyers in, and if your original feline CBD SKU isn't moving, adding a premium tier won't fix the underlying movement problem. It splits slow sales across two facings.

The thing that would prove our read wrong: if we start seeing data that shows premium CBD formulas are driving per-door sales growth in feline CBD, not just shifting existing buyers to a higher price point. If Advanced Formula buyers are incremental, meaning they would have left the category or switched brands without it, then the step-two strategy is a real retention tool. If they are existing buyers paying more for the same monthly purchase, the category isn't growing, it's just repricing.

The thing to watch next

Whether other feline CBD brands launch step-two formulas for existing users, or whether they keep adding entry SKUs. If other brands follow LIX's move, it tells us something about where the category opportunity sits. If they don't, LIX may be reading the category differently than its competitors, and time will tell who's right.
