OurenPet launches pet wearable at $259 on Indiegogo with mid-December ship date
The company set campaign pricing at $259, approximately 35% below the planned retail price of $399, and expects initial shipments in mid-December.
OurenPet priced its Memory One pet wearable at $259 for backers of its Indiegogo campaign, which launched September 22 and runs through October 30, 2026. The company said the campaign price sits approximately 35% below the planned retail price of $399.
The pricing spread and what it tests
The gap between campaign and retail pricing is substantial. OurenPet is using the campaign as a pre-order mechanism rather than a margin test, buying early cash flow and production certainty at the cost of teaching early adopters that retail price is negotiable.
If the device reaches retail distribution at $399 and a store stocks it, the buyer who backed the campaign at $259 becomes a price anchor working against the sale. A customer who knows someone paid $259 earlier does not hear $399 as premium positioning, they hear it as a markup on the same hardware.
The company said initial shipments are expected to begin in mid-December 2026, a timeline that puts first units in backers' hands after the campaign closes. The ship window for a hardware product suggests OurenPet is working from existing production plans.
For a buyer evaluating this category, the December date is the one to watch. If the company ships on time, it clears the first credibility gate. If it slips into Q1 2027, it joins the long list of crowdfunded pet tech that could not execute on its own timeline.
What the device logs and what that costs to maintain
Memory One combines camera footage, audio, activity tracking, and location data to build what the company calls a growing record of each pet's daily life. The first shipping version will include AI-assisted insights and live video to help owners locate missing pets, according to the announcement.
The device uses on-device processing and cloud AI to select footage and organize behavioral information, turning selected moments into pet diaries, short videos, and periodic recaps. The company said AI also helps flag unusual changes in activity and behavior.
For outdoor tracking, Memory One combines GPS information, nearby Bluetooth cues, and visible LED signals. When a pet goes missing, owners can use the app to request a live camera view of the surroundings, and the company said a recognizable road, patch of grass, or nearby building can provide clues about where to look next.
The technical stack requires on-device processing, cloud AI, live video streaming, and GPS, all of which carry ongoing server costs and software updates to function. The announcement does not mention a subscription fee, which means OurenPet is either planning to introduce one post-launch or expects hardware margin at $399 retail to cover the lifetime cloud and support costs for each device sold.
The crowdfunding-to-retail question and what the timing does not show
The announcement does not name any retail distribution partners or mention plans to pursue specialty or independent placement after the campaign closes. OurenPet said it is exploring richer pet profiles based on recurring activity and interaction patterns, and planned features include records of pet meetups, connections between owners, and more personalized ways to share experiences.
For those planned profile and social features, the company said it intends to give owners a choice over whether behavioral information is shared or kept private.
The roadmap language is standard for a crowdfunding pitch, but it also signals that the first shipping version will not include the social and profile features the company is describing. A buyer evaluating shelf risk should note that a device that ships incomplete and depends on future software updates to deliver its differentiated features is a device that can brick if the startup runs out of runway before it ships those updates.
The mid-December ship date gives OurenPet time from campaign close to first delivery. If the company meets that date and the device works as described, it clears the execution risk. If it ships late, or ships incomplete, or requires a subscription the announcement did not mention, the pattern becomes harder to ignore.
The $259 campaign price and the $399 retail price are both public now, which means any retail buyer who considers stocking this device will be negotiating against a price the market already knows.
Our read: too early to stock, and the pricing structure makes it hard to see how this lands on a shelf at $399 when early adopters paid $259. If OurenPet ships on time, funds a second production run, and names a distributor, revisit it. For now, the crowdfunding launch does not translate to a retail story.
