Petco scheduled its Q2 fiscal 2026 earnings call for September 2, 2026 at 4:15 PM Eastern, with results releasing at 4:00 PM the same day.

The decision you're actually facing

The company also announced it will participate in the Goldman Sachs Global Consumer and Retail Conference 2026, with a fireside chat on September 14 and investor meetings on September 22-23.

This is a calendar announcement. The company gave no preview of results, no guidance, no strategic shift. Just the date and the webcast link.

But if you compete with Petco in any category, the call matters more than the press release suggests.

What the earnings call actually tells you

Petco runs over 1,500 stores across the U.S. Mexico, and Puerto Rico. When the company reports Q2 results, it will share performance data, and that data tells you whether the big box is gaining or losing ground in the same consumer environment you just operated in.

The call won't say your store's name. But it will tell you whether Petco's Q2 looked like yours, and whether the trends they're seeing match what you're seeing.

The investor conferences that follow, Goldman Sachs on September 14, meetings on September 22-23, are where management talks strategy with the people who decide whether to fund it. If Petco signals it's leaning harder into private label, or scaling back vet services, or testing a new format, that's the venue where it surfaces first.

Our read: the call is a leading indicator, not a report card

Most independents ignore big-box earnings calls because the numbers feel irrelevant at single-location scale. That's backward.

Petco's Q2 performance tells you what worked and what didn't in the exact same consumer environment you just operated in. The specifics of how they frame their results, whether they're talking about traffic, basket size, margin pressure, or mix shift, tell you what they think is driving the business, and that shapes what they'll do next quarter.

The other reason to listen: Petco's investor narrative drives its next six months of tactics. What management tells Goldman Sachs in mid-September will show up as store-level execution in Q3 and Q4.

The number you should pull before September 2

Go back to your Q2 sales by category. Pick the three categories where you compete directly with Petco, treats, food, toys, whatever overlaps most.

Pull your same-store sales growth (or decline) for those three categories. Write it down.

Then listen to Petco's call on September 2. Compare your performance to what they report.

If you outperformed Petco in a category, you're doing something right and the play is to protect it. If you underperformed, the call will tell you whether it's a you problem or an everyone problem, and whether the fix is assortment, price, or something else.

The call goes live at 4:15 PM Eastern on September 2. The webcast and replay will be available at ir.petco.com.

The thing most retailers will miss: this isn't about Petco. It's about reading the same market data the big box is reading, before they act on it.
