Three Dog Bakery Just Bet Seven SKUs on the Two Segments Legacy Brands Keep Losing
Seven new SKUs aimed at small-dog formats and protein-forward recipes. The timing puts them in the same decision window as every other brand.
That's what Three Dog Bakery is bringing to SuperZoo 2026, all aimed at small-dog formats and protein-forward recipes. The company will show the full lineup at Booth #3938 in Las Vegas, with availability rolling out between now and early 2027.
What the seven actually are
The launch splits across three platforms the company calls "high-growth innovation."
Protein-forward expansion: Two new Bark'n Crunch! varieties, Turkey Chips (one ingredient, 100% turkey, September 2026 availability) and Chicken & Hickory Smoke Chips (two ingredients, already live on ecommerce). Plus a Chicken Pot Pie biscuit with real chicken and bone broth, soft-baked, shelves early 2027.
People-inspired comfort foods: A Bacon, Egg & Cheese Biscuit (real cheese, visible bacon inclusions, early 2027) and Cheezie Yips (cheddar-based crunchy treat inspired by a cheesy cracker, on shelves now).
Small-dog specific: Small Dog Lick'n Crunch! (bite-sized sandwich cookie, peanut butter and oats, fewer calories, early 2027) and Small Dog Mini "Mutts" Cookie Trio (three flavors, Birthday Vanilla with Sprinkles, Peanut Butter, Carrot Cake, all in smaller formats, 2027).
Marella Oviedo, Chief Marketing and Innovation Officer, said the lineup is "driven by what we believe the unmet needs are for pet parents and their pups, not by chasing fads."
What it is NOT
This is not a flavor refresh. Seven SKUs is a portfolio expansion across existing treat segments: protein chips, soft-baked biscuits, crunchy cookies.
And the company frames the innovation as "premium humanized treats" with "real ingredients" and "recognizable flavors."
Seven SKUs at SuperZoo means buyers evaluate this against every other treat launch in a category where shelf space is finite.
The misread everyone will make
The press material calls this "consumer-driven innovation" and "helping retailers grow the category." That language makes it sound like a rising tide.
The tell: the company describes these as "scalable product platforms that create multiple merchandising opportunities" and "encourage cross-purchasing and repeat visits." That's the pitch a brand makes when it's trying to prove it can drive velocity, not when it already owns the aisle.
If you're a single-location independent with limited treat space, seven SKUs from one brand is a meaningful commitment. The question is whether Three Dog Bakery can prove pull in small-dog and protein segments better than the private-label option your distributor is offering at higher margin or the DTC brand that has owned that niche in your market.
If you're a regional chain buyer walking SuperZoo, you're evaluating this launch against every other treat debut in a category where shelf space is finite. The timing puts Three Dog Bakery in the same decision window as every other brand trying to land on your spring reset, which means the seven SKUs have to out-earn not just the slot cost but the opportunity cost of the other pitches you're hearing that week.
The small-dog platform is the sharper bet. The company is explicitly responding to "small and mini dog parent feedback", which suggests they have data showing the segment converts.
If Three Dog Bakery can prove pull in those segments, you might reclaim margin from the brands that have owned those niches. If they can't, you're stuck with dead inventory through Q4.
The company will be at Booth #3938 during SuperZoo. If you stock treats, that's the conversation worth having, not because the launch is guaranteed to work, but because the answer tells you whether the brand can prove velocity in segments where newer entrants have been competing.
