The Pets Table just launched EasyFresh, a shelf-stable human-grade dog food line that sits at room temperature, requires no preservatives, and uses what the company calls patented packaging technology to hold flavor, nutrients, and moisture in the pantry. The line launched as a complete meal, a topper, or a complement to the brand's existing frozen products.

The thing The Pets Table actually decided

EasyFresh eliminates the barriers that kept fresh dog food dependent on cold chain logistics. Shelf-stable human-grade means no freezer reset, no pull dates, no thaw instructions on the shelf talker.

The company developed the line with its on-staff board-certified veterinary nutritionist. Every recipe leads with high-quality protein, includes organ meats, and cooks in bone broth for collagen. The formulation includes a clinically-tested postbiotic for gut health and stool quality. The Pets Table launched the line with two recipes, both with zero fillers and zero preservatives.

Laurent Guillemain, CEO and co-founder, framed it as a logistics fix: "While fresh food diets offer clear health benefits, the logistics of storing and thawing frozen meals can create frustration for pet parents. EasyFresh provides a reliable alternative, delivering vet-developed, human-grade nutrition that stores directly in the pantry at a lower cost than traditional fresh-frozen options."

The company says it costs less than fresh-frozen, which positions it as the accessible version of premium fresh.

What this does to the fresh conversation on your floor

If you stock frozen raw or fresh, you have been selling against the objection that premium fresh is too much work. EasyFresh removes that objection, which either expands the category or cannibalizes your frozen SKUs, depending on how you merchandise it.

The risk: a customer who was buying your frozen fresh because it felt like the premium choice now trades down to shelf-stable fresh at a lower price point, and you lose the margin. The opportunity: a customer who never considered fresh because of the freezer commitment now buys in, and you capture a premium sale you would have missed entirely.

The decision comes down to whether you believe shelf-stable human-grade grows the fresh category or just fragments it. Our read: it grows it, because the format problem was real. Stores that can test shelf-stable fresh next to super-premium kibble outnumber stores that can dedicate freezer space to a fresh line with uncertain velocity.

The thing to do if you are deciding whether to bring this in

Test it as a topper first, not as a complete meal replacement. The Pets Table designed EasyFresh to work three ways, standalone, topper, or complement, which means you can stock it in the premium topper section and let it prove itself before you reset the fresh aisle.

Give it a 90-day window and track two numbers: repeat rate and basket attach. If customers buy it once and don't come back, it is a novelty. If they buy it once and add it to their regular rotation, or if it pulls a kibble customer into a premium conversation, it is working.

Watch the price point when the brand pitches you. Guillemain said it costs less than fresh-frozen, but we do not know the retail yet. If it is priced within 15% of your frozen fresh, it is competing directly. If it is 30% under, it is opening a new segment.

What this means if you are a brand watching this

The Pets Table launched in 2023 and has been running direct-to-consumer. Now the company is launching a format designed to work in retail by removing the cold chain requirement.

If EasyFresh moves, every other fresh brand with a freezer problem will follow with a shelf-stable version, because the format unlocks distribution and the distribution unlocks volume. The Pets Table is betting that shelf-stable human-grade can sit next to super-premium kibble and win on positioning without needing the freezer door.

The failure mode: shelf-stable fresh does not hold the premium perception, customers read it as processed despite the human-grade claim, and it ends up in the middle of the aisle with no clear buyer. That would prove the format does not travel, and fresh stays frozen.

What being wrong costs: if you are running a fresh or raw brand and you wait to see whether this works, and it does, The Pets Table will have locked early distribution and set the pricing benchmark before you get your shelf-stable line to market. The window to be second is shorter than the window to be first.
