PetLabCo launched NeuraBlend Calming Chew, a daily soft chew formulated to support dogs through stress and routine changes, and it is the company's first calming product.

The melatonin-free chew features 10 active ingredients working across four pathways (gut-brain, stress response, neurotransmitter, and botanical support) and comes in a pork flavor. The company designed it for daily use with a specific double-administration protocol: start seven days before an anticipated stressful event, continue through the event, and hold for two days after.

The timing puts the launch ahead of holiday travel

PetLabCo timed the launch for the holiday season, when pet parents face boarding stays, houseguests, road trips, and flights. Chris Masanto, the company's CEO and co-founder, said the goal was to create a chew that fits into a dog's daily routine while giving pet parents a way to prepare for moments they know may be stressful.

Dr. Israel Swann, a DVM and PetLabCo consultant, said in the announcement that supporting a dog through everyday stressors starts with understanding that emotional well-being is connected to multiple systems in the body.

The launch expands PetLabCo's portfolio beyond gut health, joint health, seasonal allergy and immune support, and dental care into the calming and behavior category.

What the four-pathway formulation costs and buys

The company is positioning NeuraBlend on a multi-system approach rather than a single active ingredient. The four pathways (gut-brain, stress response, neurotransmitter, and botanical support) give the brand a science-backed story to tell, but that story requires explanation at the shelf. A buyer stocking this line is assuming that pet parents will pay for a formulation they have to read about rather than recognize.

The melatonin-free claim is the other positioning move. Melatonin is common in calming products, so calling it out signals PetLabCo is aiming at daily-use buyers who want a supplement that does not sedate. That opens a lane, but it also means the chew is competing on a more complex value proposition than the category leader on the shelf next to it.

Our read on the DTC-to-specialty play

PetLabCo built its name selling supplements direct to consumers, and NeuraBlend follows the pattern other DTC wellness brands run when they push into brick-and-mortar: launch a product with a story that requires education, time it to a seasonal demand spike, and ask for shelf space in a category that is already crowded.

The calming category turns, but it is also the category where a buyer has already said yes to three or four brands and the endcap is spoken for. A new entrant has to either cannibalize an existing SKU or prove it brings a customer the store was not already serving. The four-pathway formulation and the melatonin-free positioning are both attempts to do the latter, but they are also both claims that require a pet parent to stop and read rather than grab the brand they recognize.

The protocol (daily use, then double the dose starting a week before travel) is more complex than most calming products ask for, and complexity at the shelf is friction. A store owner stocking this is assuming that the vet-reviewed credibility and the science-backed story are worth the extra explanation, and that PetLabCo's DTC customer base will walk into the store looking for the brand by name.

What we'd watch: whether PetLabCo offers retailer training, co-op support, or sampling programs to offset the education cost, and whether the brand shows up in independent specialty or goes straight to regional chains where the margin pressure is already baked in. The company did not announce distribution partners or retailer terms, so the shelf economics are still unknown.
